We have a number of services that assist people in obtaining a home. We recognise that having somewhere to call home is a fundamental need of everyone and is essential to feeling safe and secure. A recent report from the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute highlights the importance of a home for the wellbeing and positive development of children and young people in our society. Similarly in another report the benefits to a person across a range of areas including health, education and employment were noticeably improved following access to stable accommodation options.
We appreciate that home can mean different things to different people and some people prefer the freedom from a permanent place to call home. Our aim is to work with individuals to understand their circumstances and clarify their preferences to assist them obtain their preferred accommodation.
Our goal is to assist people to find accommodation appropriate to their circumstances. We offer a number of accommodation services with social housing options in partnership with the Department of Communities Housing Department, which are detailed in our regional profiles. We also offer accommodation through the National Rent Affordability Scheme in selected areas of Central Queensland. In addition to accommodation, we offer services to support people maintain successful tenancies through development of skills in different aspects needed to achieve sustainability.
Our goal is to assist people to move along what we call the Housing Continuum in order to achieve sustainable, stable accommodation and the benefits that flow from having a place to call home.
